- Who Can Fly?
-
You - If you match the following:
- Can walk up our 3 flights of stairs to get to us - that is as fit as you need to be
- Can listen to and follow instructions from our trainers - that is as willing as you need to be
- Weigh between 25kgs and 130kgs - that is as heavy as you need to be*
- Have not recently undergone surgery, suffered a dislocated shoulder or are heavily pregnant. - Back/neck problems are also risky.
- Are not under the influence of alcohol or non-prescribed drugs (this is MUCH better!!!)
- Have signed our Statement of Risk and are prepared to part with the dosh
If so, WAHOO - you're in!
*To be honest, and not that we like to boast, we actually hold the world record for flying the heaviest person (unofficially) - 170kgs!!! We have photo evidence!
- What Is Involved?
-
To maximise your experience, it is important to pay attention to our Trainers. This is a ride, of sorts, but does require a measure of application on your part. Our friendly and experienced staff are there to ensure you get the most from your time with us.
The instruction you receive prior to getting out in the fly zone is to ensure your safety as much as it is to equip you for a great flight. So listen up, apply what you learn and you will have the time of your life! Suits and goggles are provided, but of course skydivers are welcome to wear their own.
Bodyflying is a worldwide sport and skydivers utilise Vertical Wind Tunnels to improve their skills and prepare for competitions.
Freefall Xtreme welcomes interest from the skydiving community. In fact the Royal New Zealand Airforce regularly books "tunnel time" as part of their training. We are sought out by skydivers from all over the world. Just check out our visitor's book when you are there.
- What Do I Need To Do?
- Just come as you are. No need to book, unless you are in a group of 8 or more. It pays to wear a collarless shirt, but we can provide pins to keep yours from flapping around if need be.
Be prepared to remove jewellery and the like. Lockers are available free of charge. After signing the Risk Statement and choosing between a one and a half minute (Teaser) or three minute (Fully Blown) flight, our friendly instructors take you through the basic essentials, including correct positioning of your arms, knees and chin.
Listen carefully as this information is important to the success of your flight. We provide a specially designed flight suit which aids you to gain altitude and stay in the air stream. A helmet is not necessary. Then it is out into the flight zone. This is where it gets really exciting. We crank up the 1000 horsepower V12 engine, the blade begins to turn, the wind picks up to a mean 180kph as you prepare to leap into the experience of your life. It's loud, it's exhilarating and it's incomparable to anything else you have ever tried.
Too late now to worry about your hairdo! Just remember to watch the instructor as they will be using hand signals to assist you.
- How High Do I Go?
- Our overhead safety net is set at 3 metres. Not a good look if the photos you send home are of you lying on the ground some 3 stories below!
Actually, our giant 12 metre wide air-filled cushion catches you long before that...
Again, just apply what you learn during pre take-off training and you'll be hitting the net in no time!
- What About Photos?
- We have a photographer on site taking lots of shots of you in the airstreams (not always pretty!) available for you to view and purchase immediately following your flight.
These are high resolution digital photos that we burn onto a disc so you can print and/or email them to your hearts content.
Costs NZD$35 for 1-3 people and then $15 extra for 1-2 people. Good value eh?
Or if you are really cheap, just get your mates to take some from behind the barrier - but nobody can get a close-up of that flapping face like we can!
